Donks Go Down!!!
The Oakland Raiders went into Sunday's game against their arch rival Denver Broncos with one plan, and that was to run the ball. Michael Bush ran for 133 yards and one touchdown while Darren McFadden rushed for 74 yards. Even quarterback Charlie Frye broke off a 26 yard run. It was the running game that we've been expecting since week one, better late than never! The Raiders as a team played great, everyone contributed to this win. Late in the game Charlie Frye left with a head injury and was replaced with JaMarcus Russell. I will admit, at first I was a little nervous with Russell going in. After all the game was on the line, and we all know how Russell has played this season. After a few bad plays, something inside Russell clicked and he drove us down field and lead us to victory with a ten yard touchdown pass to Chaz Schilens. I don't have much faith left in Russell, but I am certainly proud of him for what he accomplished yesterday. A game winning touchdown pass against our most hated rivals is a good way to get his confidence back up. Hopefully this is something Russell will build off of on his way to becoming a great NFL quarterback. We can hope right? The Raider defense showed up when it counted, holding the Broncos to two field goals in the first quarter. The game easily could have started off ugly, with a score of 14-0 which would have put the Raiders in a terrible position to win the game. Mike Mitchell showed us that he will be a great hard hitting safety, and Michael Huff was Jack Tatum like on one of the games final plays. It was all around the best team effort I've seen from the Raiders in a long time. One can only hope that this big win will show Mr. Davis that coach Cable deserves at least one more year. He has brought the smash mouth attitude back to Oakland, and its about time!
The Raiders shock Denver, and head home with a 20-19 victory!!!
Browns Flush Raiders
The Dawg Pound eats 3rd string QB Charlie Frye alive, final score 23-9
The Raiders play their worst football after they win a big game, and that is what kills us week and week out. Yes we have had some issues at quarterback, offensive line and there have been some struggles on defense as well but the one problem that has killed the Raiders over the last seven years isn't any of that, its consistancy. There is no reason why the Raiders should come into a game as flat as they did against Cleveland, especially after a HUGE win the previous week in Denver. It just doesn't make sense, but it is what it is. If Tom Cable does keep his job, which I hope ends up happening the Raiders will start the foundation of being a consistant organization. Which is badly needed. Charlie Frye threw for 333 yards, which sounds good on paper but when you add in three interceptions, and no touchdown passes you start to see how his day really went. He was terrible, if Gradkowski was in, and maybe even Russell we would have been in better position to win. Its really a shame that Bru-Ski got injured when he did, he brought a new life to this team that we haven't seen in years. What bothers me the most though is the fact that we don't use Michael Bush properly. In the three games Bush has rushed for 15 or more carries, the Raiders are 3-0. Enough with this running back by committee bullshit. Its time to let Michael Bush loose, and turn him into one of the elite running backs in the NFL. You might be asking yourself, what about McFadden? Its obvious the Raiders don't use him right as well, and its frustrating. What I would do is convert him into more of a receiver and let Bush get the majority of the carries. Once Bush wears down the defense, you put McFadden back at back and let him break the big ones all day! That kind of combination would force defensive cordinators to stay up all night trying to game plan for the Raiders. Things don't look good in Oakland, but with that being said in my opinion this Raider team is the best Raider of the last seven years. If we would have started off the season with Gradkowski, we might have been a playoff team!
Another Bad Season
The Raiders fall to Ravens in Oakland, 21-13 final score
The Raiders failed to end the season on a positive note, losing their final game at home to the Baltimore Ravens. A game that Baltimore needed to win to make the playoffs was a perfect opportunity for the Raiders to play spoiler, but the Oakland let the game slip out of their hands. Michael Bush was the Raiders leading rusher with 10 carries for 18 yards. While Willis McGahee rushed for over 150 yards and ran for three scores. When you can't run the ball and you can't stop the run why even show up? Yes, you gotta give credit to Baltimore's amazing run defense they lit it up yesterday. Regardless, when the Raiders have Michael Bush and Darren McFadden in the backfield there should be over 100 yards rushing nearly every game! Our problem is offensive line, the OL squad looks dazed without guard Robert Gallery. If there is one goal this offseason, it needs to be FIX THE OFFENSIVE LINE. Everybody knows you win games up front, and when the Raiders have a SOFT offensive line its impossible to win games. Look back at the great teams in Raider history, each team had a dominating offensive line. What the Raiders have this year is trash. Out of the entire squad there are maybe three or four lineman who deserve to be in the NFL. Harsh I know, but its true! This looks to be an exciting offseason, stay tuned for mock drafts and more info!!!
